Second Week: Which characteristic is more suitable for Pakistan: Rabbit or Turtle?
We've all come across the story of the 'tortoise and rabbit' in our childhoods, but we never thought of the fact that the moral of the story will be applicable some 15-18 years later. Yes, today we all are in a race. But we don't know exactly what race it is. Is it about our lives or is it about technology? Is it about the political stability or about our religion? We act like rabbits in some aspects, like turtles in the others. I personally believe that Pakistan should do the same. Act like a turtle in some aspects and like a rabbit in others. It should plan wisely and also be reactive towards the change that is taking place in the society, that is how it will excel and bring a positive social change. Lets not cry over the plannings done by our great leaders and instigate in ourselves passion and integrity, which will lead us to the right path, winning really doesn't matter.
An old story of Rabbit and turtle in which turtle wins but who cares it was just a story but in reality turtles have spoiled everything they are moving so slow that from past 64 years we are trying to remove our basic needs and for how many years we all have to spent our lives by discussing these issues..for how many years we all have to fight for food NOW we have to show our rabbit side that we can work harder and faster people should think of solutions and STOP discussing these issues we all know these problems from the first day when we all were born..problems are now old issue to discuss we all should work like a rabbit as fast as we can or follow the old story...stories take people to fantasy land which can never happen in reality..
This debate that whether we should have more turtles in our society or rabbits is an interesting one. I support the turtle society. This is because although turtles are associated with being slow and sluggish but they are smart enough to achieve their targets. Everybody is well aware of the tale about the rabbit and the turtle that the rabbit thought of the turtle as being really slow and took a nap in between the race. He slept and eventually the turtle passed by him and won. We need more turtles in our society because we need people who invest more time and put in more efforts to achieve their goals. We need people who go with planning and consistency in order to carry out their tasks. I believe we can’t be rabbits because we can’t achieve anything overnight. Shortcuts do not help in long term gains. As rabbits appear to be very lively and are busy hopping from one place to another, they are likely to get across more obstacles. On the other hand the turtle moves slowly and gradually and thinks before doing any work. Hard work and struggle always pay off but decisions made in haste do not have long lasting effects. Lastly, a revolution doesn’t come instantly. It is achieved gradually with struggle, devotion and effort.
In my opinion, we cannot generalize people into categories like turtles and rabbits. I believe, the decisions people make (individually as well as groups) are purely situational. If the Pakistani society is to be kept in mind, I believe we have are a nation full of rabbits - always running after the next best thing(whether it is attainable or not is a separate situation itself). We are never grateful for what we have and we never feel satisfied for what we get. As a nation we work for individual satisfaction and nothing else. All we care about is our own personal gains. We're much like rabbits - trying to hop around situations picking up only the benefits. We jump over obstacles and do not care at all about removing them for others following us so that their journey is better than ours. We have been so much blinded by our urge to gain more and more that we have become a group of two-faced people who focus on nothing but their own selves. I am at a loss to understand why people adapt to only the negative aspects of such notations.
